THE PERFECT PAIR DOLPHIN TRILOGY AUTHORS' LETTER TO UK PRIME MINISTER BORIS JOHNSON

Dear Prime Minister Johnson

First, we wish to tell you how happy we were to see you address our great country yesterday. During your illness, you were constantly in our thoughts and in our prayers - and, judging from public reaction, it seems to us that you are loved more than you know.

Next, we wish to raise the issue of China, the Chinese wet markets and the Chinese dog and cat meat trade.

You will know only too well how the Chinese (and many other Asian countries) work: skinning animals alive; boiling, grilling and blow-torching dogs alive; even eating some animals alive; in the ignorant belief that torture sweetens the meat.

We should NOT be trading with such countries - especially not China, which is responsible for a disease that could wipe out almost half of humanity.

We are requesting NO trade with China, and NO monies going to China in times of crisis. Same with Japan, Korea, the Philippines and other countries that see fit to abuse and torture animals in horrific ways, then peddle lies to cover up their gross inhumanity.

Until these countries change their ways, we should boycott them and restore our own manufacturing industries; returning us to an era when the UK produced quality goods, instead of importing cheap throwaway rubbish with which to destroy the planet.

Finally, having suffered from Covid-19 yourself, you know all too well how lucky you were to come through your ordeal. You also know how virulent this disease is. Despite the terrible death toll that Covid-19 has inflicted on the world, there are still some fortunate enough to weather it.

However, we ask you to take a glimpse into the future: the next pandemic inflicted by the Asian wet markets could be infinitely more virulent, more catastrophic, more deadly. Indeed, as the scientific community has testified, we are still not out of the woods with this version of Covid-19.

The world can no longer conduct "business as usual". Nature has handed humanity a harsh lesson – one we must ALL learn from if we wish to avoid another catastrophe such as this.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. We send our best wishes to you and your loved ones.

Yes we are very pleased that our prime minister is safe and well and we congratulate him and. Carrie on becoming parents to a lovely little boy🙏

It is clear that Chinese way of extreme unadulterated abysmal cruelty to animals has to stop...
The Wet Meat. Markets and Dog Meat Trade go beyond the realms of all that is decent and humane and as we have seen, the cross contamination leading to zoonosis capability giving the world Yet another form of. SarsV1 Covid 19
It is clear that the U.K. and the world are not prepared to tolerate extreme animal cruelty right across the board and we think the U.K. should lead the way in clamping down on this.
We sincerely hope you will act for us and bring about a kinder world for animals.

What a lovely message, Nenagh. It would indeed be wonderful if the UK could lead the world in treating animals with compassion and love, as they should be treated.

Unfortunately, a recent decision by the UK Government allowing the Chinese to access our 5G network is not only misguided, but also dangerous to our national security.

The Chinese have proven that they cannot be trusted. On top of that, their horrific cruelty towards animals - and many of their own people - is an abuse that must not be allowed to spread globally, as their Covid-19 killer virus has spread.

Once again, thank you for taking time to make comment. Let's pray for a kinder future.

If true, this would be wonderful Nenagh, but we think it's still under consideration. We haven't found anything online to say that the Government has revoked its decision. Please let us know if you can find any verifiable links - there's a lot of fake news out there! Thanks again for commenting.

We must also realise that it is not just Asian countries who have wet markets. We should be wary of using them as scapegoats when every country on the planet has wet markets if you follow the strict definition - even your local fish market is technically a wet market.

We will continue to face pandemics like COVID19 if we don't change the way we interact with wildlife. Over the last few decades we have pushed wildlife to it's limit in terms of invading their habitat. We have forced them into contact with ourselves and with domestic species. We have intensified the nightmare that is factory farming, which provides a perfect intermediate breeding ground for novel zoonoses by our insistence on breeding programs that create genetically similar animals, poor husbandry and thus poor herd health, and the blind faith that antibiotics will cure all - which is beginning to have disastrous consequences for all life due to burgeoning antibiotic resistance.

It is beyond time that the human race took a good hard look at itself and it's treatment of non-human life. Never doubt for one minute that this pandemic is of our own collective creation and if we don't immediately change the way we interact with the natural world which sustains us all, we are asking for far more catastrophic consequences than COVID-19.

A well-written comment, Frances, and everything you say is valid. It is true that every country needs to look at its own abuses. Indeed, I cringe whenever I see a pile of crabs waving their claws on a fish stall. These, too, will be boiled alive. And we in the UK also have abuses on farms, in slaughterhouses and laboratories, to name but a few.

All countries need to change. All. I just believe that some countries are closer to change than others. When I see footage of dogs struggling to climb out of a boiling pot whilst laughing Chinese force them back in, or see grinning Chinese tearing into a live squid with their teeth, I don't worry that they feel scapegoated. I'd like to do far more than scapegoat them. I had thought that only psychopaths enjoyed others' pain. On a positive note, I hate those in the UK who indulge in fox hunting and badger culling just as much.

Whether the UK Government agrees with me, I cannot tell. I have not yet had a reply from our Prime Minister. But when I receive it, I will post it as a comment. I confess that I don't hold up much hope that my request will be taken seriously. It's all about money - and, as you rightly say - change needs to be radical and global ... and that may be too big a challenge for humankind.

Both David and I would like to thank you personally for all the fantastic support you have given us and The Perfect Pair Dolphin Trilogy. Without people like you, we would have disappeared without trace. We have so many wonderful friends who work tirelessly to help captive cetaceans and to stop other animal abuses.

Unfortunately, our Prime Minister nor his aides ever replied to our letter, and Boris Johnson - despite promising so much - seems to be just another career politician breaking his promises.

Thanks again for everything, and especially for your part in fighting animal abuse everywhere.
